A Christmas Hymn

Jono MacSorley

  • In the quiet, in the distance

There’s a flame that flickers on

    Among Mary and the angels

    We can hear eternal song

Here with us, oh holy, holy

    Close you came, Emmanuel

Oh, shone your light into the darkness

Freed us from the hold of Hell

All the wealth of Heaven gathered

In your arms to give away

In the crying of an infant

    Every human heart embraced

To the shame of being broken

    Clothed in skin, you dignified

Oh, every soul on earth befriended

By the God of love divine

Now you make my heart a stable

    Yes, you call me Bethlehem

    The incarnate still unfolding

    Make your home inside, within

    I’ll receive your holy presence

    I’ll become your dwelling place

Oh, fill the temple with your fragrance

    Call it holy, sacred space

    I receive your holy presence

    I behold the humble king

Oh, living flame, I bow in reverence

All my worship I now bring
